Fossil Fish Group - Knightia
Fossilisation is a rare event and that it happens at all is remarkable - to get examples where more than one animal has been preserved is amazing
Knightia were fish which lived in the Eocene period (around 50 million years ago)
They lived in a large body of fresh water which covered what is now Wyoming and Utah in the USA
It is a big fossil which would looks great on display.
There are TWO separate Knightia fish with lots of clear detail ... you can also feel the spine and surface texture.
Fish 1: 10cm long (including tail) x 2.5cm wide approx
Fish 2: 9cm long (including tail) x 2.5cm wide approx
It is in a pale shale matrix block measuring 26.5cm x 19cm (with irregular edges)
