Coelacanth - Safari Collection
If you love Dinosaurs, Fossils and prehistoric creatures in general you HAVE to feel excited about the Coelacanth ... the only LIVING FOSSIL!!!
This weird looking creature was thought to have become extinct during the Cretaceous Period (65 million years ago) and then amazingly they were identified in 1938 very much alive and happily swimming around the Indian Ocean minding their own business (presumably this is how they managed to survive!)
Coelacanths are more related to lungfish and tetrapods than to regular fish and only 1.5% of their brain case contains brain tissue the rest is fat ... so it is a real fathead!
We suspect it is another example of survival of the dimmest ... of course, most of us could name a human example (or two)!
